A quick and easy process.
2 min readDec 17, 2024
Lyumjev, approved for insulin pump use since August 2021, has shown positive outcomes among open-source loop users. Pre-filled cartridges are not currently available, so you’ll need to fill your own insulin pump cartridge with Lyumjev insulin. Filling your insulin pump cartridge with Lyumjev can seem daunting at first, but with the right steps, it becomes a fast and easy process.
Why Lyumjev?
- Less after-meal blood sugar spikes: The insulin works faster to help prevent high blood sugar after meals, even if you don’t time things perfectly.
- Less insulin buildup: Since each dose finishes working sooner, you’re less likely to have too much insulin in your body at once.
- Loop system accuracy: The t-max and half-life are shorter, your automated insulin system will work better because there will be less errors in the predictions of the algorithm.
What You’ll Need:
- Lyumjev penfill or insulin vial
- Empty insulin pump cartridge (Fiasp or Novorapid cartridges work well)
- BD Microlance 3 needle (0.8 x 40mm) for drawing insulin
- Nipro 5 mL syringe (2–5 mL syringes are suitable)
- Alcohol wipes for sterilization
- A clean, flat surface
